Home births prevalent in Chipinge

MOST expectant mothers in Chipinge district in Manicaland Province have resorted to home deliveries as the district is reportedly facing a serious shortage of maternity waiting homes, a government official has said.

Addressing stakeholders during a two-day workshop that ended in Nyanga last Friday, where non-governmental organisation Plan International handed over the $4 million Women and Their Children (Watch) project to government, Chipinge district nursing officer Richard Sithole said the few waiting rooms available in the district were congested.

Sithole added that some rooms meant for two pregnant women were now accommodating over seven people.
