DFID to spend £490,000 on small scale miners

The United Kingdom‟s Department for International Development (DFID) has committed £490,000 to
fund a study in support of the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe‟s (COMZ) drive to integrate small scale
mining projects into the mainstream industry.

Small scale miners were in the past treated as illegal miners and sidelined from mainstream economic
activity, resulting in mineral leakages where minerals such as gold and diamonds were sold on the black
market and smuggled to neighboring countries.
